Program Overview

The programme aim of Master of Science in Psychology (by research) will produce
Psychologist

who are:

  1. Knowledgeable in Psychology field and implement as well as adopt the integral part of
    research processes
  2. Conduct empirical research to perform critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of
    complex ideas in psychology
  3. Combine ideas with peers, scholarly communities and society to expand the technological,
    social, and cultural progress in academic contexts.
  4. Acquire information of Psychology by literature review for lifelong learning.

Entry Requirements

  1. Bachelor of Psychology (Level 6) or equivalent to a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 OR
  2. Other Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00, AND with a minimum
    prerequisite of 45 credits / psychology modules equivalent (covering all 8 fields of scientific
    science, Biological Basics in behaviour, human development, cognitive-effective principles in
    behaviour, individual differences, socio-contextual context in behaviour, values in psychology
    and the application of psychological science) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 in the
    prerequisite module OR
  3. Other Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00, AND with a minimum
    prerequisite of 30 credits of psychology modules or equivalent (including all eight knowledge
    areas) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 in the pre-requisite module and Graduate
    exam Record Examination (GRE) subjects (psychology) with a minimum score of 550 OR
  4. Other equivalent or relevant qualifications, experience and conditions received by Competent
    authority of Malaysia.

Module Structure

Research Methodology

Research methodology is the specific procedure or technique used to identify, select, process, and analyze information about a topic. In a research paper, the methodology section allows the reader to critically evaluate a study’s overall validity and reliability.

Computer Application

Some influences of computers on theory and methodology in cognitive research are discussed. Theoretical concept that cognitive science has borrowed from computer science includes processing algorithms, processing rates, information organization and information selection. The application of these constructs to human information processing is considered, with illustrations from memory and reading research.

Dissertation (Thesis Work) By Research

The objective of this proposition is maintained by argument. A dissertation advancing an original point of view as a result of research, especially as a requirement for an academic degree, a hypothetical proposition, especially one put forth without proof. This course provides a thorough, step – by – step guide that helps students develop the research skills critical to today’s business environment. The lectures blend traditional research methods with detailed instruction on how to use and evaluate research technologies. The course constitutes examples and insightful tips to help students to get the most current wealth of resources for their personal and professional research efforts. It provides coverage of the research process, problem selection, sampling and generalizability.

Duration and delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over three academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and online by approved centers only.
